Soil Lab

Ongoing

Beneath our feet, soil is teeming with tiny organisms that are critical to life on earth!

In this family-friendly discovery zone, visitors learn about the dirt beneath our feet, and how Canadian farmers are working to ensure the health of crops and fields.

Discover the organisms contained in a single teaspoon of soil. Explore the chemical, physical and biological properties of soil, and why healthy soil is such an essential resource.

In the Soil Lab, visitors can dig into the importance of soil health and conservation. Get your hands dirty by helping to plant and take care of the museum’s garden (seasonal activity) or by digging into a fresh scoop of active vermicompost!
