Explore Canada’s collection of science and technology artifacts with a stroll down Artifact Alley.

Running the length of the museum, this spectacular gallery features more than 700 artifacts—including many rare and one-of-a-kind objects.

Experience an immersive winter scene, take the wheel of a ship, and see how science and technology figure into our daily lives. Get hands-on with real woodworking tools, discover old technologies that can now be found as apps on a smartphone, take command of a sci-fi spacecraft, and more!

Exhibition highlights

  • The ten-foot-tall Thomas Cooke telescope, used in the 1880s to help figure out the distance from Earth to the Sun
  • The Hitchbot, which successfully hitchhiked solo across Canada in 2014
  • A 1961 Amphicar—the only amphibious vehicle ever created for the consumer market
  • A massive Fresnel lens, often used in lighthouses, along with an interactive showing the signals used at four Canadian lighthouses
  • Fun and games from the mid-20th century, including a 1936 Wurlitzer jukebox and a Williams pinball machine from 1960
