Tracks and trains: Railroads in miniature

Dates vary. Please see details below.

February 22, 2025 – February 23, 2025
10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Discover the fascinating world of miniature railroads!

Typically, the museum’s full-sized locomotives take center stage—now, they come to life in miniature! Step into our temporary exhibition hall to marvel at the incredible model train display crafted by the Ottawa Valley HOTRAK Club. Watch as tiny trains chug along sprawling tracks, weaving through breathtaking landscapes inspired by current and historical railways. Visitors can also enjoy a fun game of “I spy,” to try and uncover hidden surprises in the display. Our knowledgeable volunteers and museum staff will be operating the trains, offering an up-close look at how real railways function—on a smaller scale.

The model trains are displayed at an operating height of 45” above the floor, with an accessible elevated viewing area available.

Ottawa Valley HOTRAK Club is an HO scale modular model railroad club that integrates double- and single-track modules into large free-form layouts. The display layout is a sampling of the club’s modules, showing what can be done in a tight space. When not at the museum, HOTRAK layouts are set up about 8 times per year and emphasize realistic train operations. The club has been operating for over 25 years and currently has about 50 members.
