Accessibility

Ingenium is committed to creating inclusive spaces and addressing accessibility barriers so that visitors, staff and volunteers have opportunities to enjoy our museums.

Should you have any specific access needs, staff will gladly work with you to find a suitable solution so all can enjoy the Canada Aviation and Space Museum.

The Canada Aviation and Space Museum has received an Accessibility Certified rating under the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification™ program. This certification acknowledges features of the building such as accessibly designed interior circulation and exhibition spaces, signage, and accessible parking.

The museum’s main visitor entrance is equipped with push button automatic doors. Accessible washrooms are available throughout the building.  All museum levels are accessible by elevator.

Exhibitions

Accessibility standards inform our exhibition design, including considerations for:

  • Height of text panels
  • Touchscreen controls
  • Height range for viewing objects up close
  • Colour, contrast, size, and legibility of text
  • Circulation routes
  • Height, location, and design of seating

The museum has prepared self-guided tours for several of its exhibitions. They include panel texts, descriptions of exhibition content, and navigation directions. Visitors can download the Braille Ready File (.brf) for use on their personal braille reading device, or the Portable Document Format (.pdf) for use with text reading software such as Voice Dream.
