Roosters strut and chicks scurry around inside a bustling henhouse, pecking at the ground and exploring their surroundings.

Poultry House

Ongoing

From late spring through fall, stop by the outdoor Poultry House to meet our feathered friends.

Say hello to our hens and roosters, among other poultry. Roosters are known as nature’s alarm clocks, but they can “cock-a-doodle-doo” pretty much any time of the day! Then, hop along to the neighbouring enclosure to meet the museum’s rabbits.

In the winter months, the Poultry House is closed and its animals can be found in our other barns.

Included with museum admission
A museum worker with blonde hair and a red shirt holds a small chicken in her hand. Two young children in sweaters and jeans look on intently, reaching out to touch the chicken’s brown, black and white mottled feathers.

Chickens

The average laying hen produces more than 270 eggs per year! Drop by the Poultry House to meet our roosters and hens. See if you can spot the Chantecler hens, a heritage Canadian breed with reddish brown colouring. Look for our eye-catching Silkie chicken with her fluffy white feathers. Meet our Serama chickens – the smallest breed of chicken in the world. A full-sized Serama rooster is no bigger than a pigeon!

Rabbits

Hop on over to meet the rabbits who call the museum home. See our Lionhead rabbit with his wool mane. Watch the massive Flemish Giant X Californian rabbits frolic and play. Plus, meet our Harlequin rabbit with her distinctive fur. These fluffy-tailed friends are among our visitor favourites!
